5 Signs That You Need To Declutter Your Home

We all have a personal threshold for clutter. Some feel anxious, stressed and overwhelmed by the smallest amount of it while others don't seem bothered by its presence at all when there are piles high on every flat surface in sight. Either way, there are a few signs you can look out for which will tell you when it is time to start decluttering your home.

1. You are always organising your things.

You can’t seem to get your home looking tidier regardless of how much effort you put in, but you keep trying anyway. Even when things are organised and put away in their proper places they don’t stay like this for long!

The problem lies with the way we store our belongings – if it’s not constantly being used or looked after then items start to create mess again within minutes of us bestowing them some space on a shelf.

2. You avoid inviting people around.

The thought of inviting friends and family over has you anxious knowing that it would take hours to put your home in order. Perhaps you even put off hiring cleaners or decorators because you feel there is too much ‘stuff’ for them to work around?

3. You can never find things in your house.

When you have too many things it’s difficult to find space for it all. Perhaps it is the children’s school books getting lost among the clutter, or your car keys misplaced on untidy surfaces – either way, decluttering your space can save you both stress and time.

4. You don't look forward to being at home.

The feeling of wanting to avoid going home, rather than relaxing in your own space, can be a sign that you need a mental break from the clutter. Your home should be your safe space and your sanctuary, and the more clutter you have the less at peace your mind will be.

5. You can't use all the rooms in your house.

You have a lot of rooms in your home, but you can’t use them in the way you’d like to because they are filled with clutter! It sounds like it could be time to let some things go.

If any of the above 5 points sound like you, perhaps now is the time to de-clutter. Not only can it improve your mental and physical wellbeing, but it can also put an extra pretty penny in your pocket if you use SellMyThings to turn some of that old clutter into cash.
